Cheryl has blown ex Liam Payne’s chance of getting to the No1 spot by knocking him further down the charts with her first single in four years.
Before the former Girls Aloud star dropped her new song Love Made Me Do It at midnight, Liam was sitting comfortable at No2 in the iTunes chart.
Only Ariana Grande’s thank u, next lay between him and the top spot for his track Polaroid, with Lennon Stella and Jonas Blue.
But just hours after Cheryl’s new single dropped, his song was pushed down to No3.
Just a few days ago, Liam had been campaigning to claim the top spot with the help of his fans.
He retweeted a message from DJ and producer Jonas, who shared a screenshot showing the chart positions.
He said: "LET’S GET POLAROID TO #1 ON THE UK @iTUNES!"
Ex-One Direction star Liam also shared the same screenshot, telling his fans: "Thanks for all the support so far on #Polaroid. You guys are truly amazing"
But then along came Cheryl.
Her first single in four years went straight to the top of the charts, and former bandmate Nicola Roberts was quick to point it out.
She took to Twitter to share a screenshot, revealing that she’d bought the song to support her pal.
Cheryl replied with a string of celebration emojis, adding: "Nicola!!!"
And her friend replied: "Why are we not together at this very moment to jump up and down and throw ourselves on the floor"
Liam, who shares son Bear with Cheryl has also shown his support for her song.
He took to Twitter earlier today to say: "Congratulations @CherylOfficial on your first release in 4 years can’t wait for everyone to hear the rest"
In Cheryl’s new song, she calls herself a "sucker" and says that she falls in love with "every f***er".
The lyrics go: "I took the fast lane all of my life / I’ve been a bad girl, I’ve been the good wife.
"I’ve fallen hard like a million times / On number seven of my nine lives / The ink on my skin is all the places I’ve been.
“Oh my god, I’m such a sucker, I fall in love with every f*****/ Oh no I won’t apologise / ‘Cause I’m breaking all my rules, but love made me do it."
