Queen Elizabeth will meet her eighth (and newest!) great-grandchild today (May 8), right after Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan introduced their first baby to the world in St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle.
Royal commentator Omid Scobie revealed the adorable meeting is set to take place, writing on Twitter, “The Queen (who is currently at Windsor Castle) will meet her new great-grandchild alongside Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan today. Details to come!”
On May 7, Queen Elizabeth attended a place at the Order of Merit service at Windsor Castle, alongside her husband, Prince Philip, who rarely makes public appearances since retiring from his official royal duties in 2017.
ITV News‘ royal editor, Chris Ship, tweeted a video clip of the Queen being asked about the arrival of her great-grandchild. According to Ship, former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien asked the queen about her newest great grandchild: “Life is good for Your Majesty?” he asked. “Yes, thank you,” she responded. He countered, “Another great grandchild! How many of them have you got now?” She responded with clear excitement, “Eight!”
Before meeting with the queen, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan took the time to debut Baby Sussex to the world. With sheer excitement on their faces, they shared a few thoughts about the “magic” of parenthood. Meghan told reporters, “I have the two best guys in the world. And so I am really happy.” Harry added, “We are just so thrilled to have our own bundle of joy and to be able to spend some precious time as he slowly starts to grow up.”
Now, all that’s left to do is wait for the announcement of Baby Sussex’s official name.
