As expected Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Thugs Of Hindostan has received a bumper response on its opening day at the box office. As per the early estimates, the action-adventure fantasy film raked in Rs 50 crore on its first day making it the biggest opener of all time beating Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year (Rs 44.97 crore), which was also a Diwali release. Set in the 1700 era, the film is one of the expensive projects of Bollywood and is also the widest release Bollywood film with 500 screens including for Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions.
Looking at the current scenario, we are expecting the film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark tomorrow. Though the crucial factor for the film will start from weekdays, where we can actually get the clear idea that whether it has enticed the audience enough or not. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif in pivotal roles.
Filmy Friday: Where will Thugs of Hindostan stand in Aamir Khan’s Top 10 highest grossers?
Since the film has received negative reviews, it’ll be interesting to see whether bad word of mouth will hamper the business of Thugs of Hindostan. Our editor-in-chief Tushar Joshi, gave the film two stars and wrote, “Thugs should have been shorter, sharper and made use of the talent it signed up. Instead Vijay Krishna Acharya ends up being the jack of all trades but the master of none. His attempt to excel in every technical department but pay zero attention to the writing, is a major cause of worry. Thugs of Hindostan will thug you of your peace of mind and sanity. Avoidable.”
