Valanchery Municipality is hosting the 15th edition of an ethnic food festival titled Ummante Vadakkini.
The festival promoted by the District Kudumbasree Mission has become hugely popular among people with a refined palette for the ethnic dishes of Malabar.
Sayed Abid Husain Thangal, MLA, inaugurated the festival at a function presided over by Valanchery Municipal chairperson M. Shahina. Municipal vice chairman K.V. Unnikrishnan, councillor Maimoona, municipal secretary A. Faizal, Kudumbasree programme officer Mridula, National Urban Livelihoods Mission manager P.K. Subairul Avan, and Community Development Society chairperson Sunita Ramesh spoke.
Organisers said that 14 editions of the Ummante Vadakkini food fest held in other parts of the district had been hugely successful.
The festival has a wide variety of food items prepared by skilled cooks of Café Kudumbasree. Among the delicacies available at the festival are Karinjeeraka Kozhi, Malabar Dum Biriyani, Chicken Pollichathu, Chathikkatha Sundari, Nice Pathiri, Kappa Biriyani, Green Chicken, and various payasams, cakes and juice items.
Organisers said that the festival would be open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The festival will conclude on Thursday night.
