Accused were out on bail then
Two robbers were arrested from near Geeta Colony on Monday for allegedly firing at a police officer last week in a bid to rob him, the police said.
The accused were identified as Arman Farhaz (30) and Mohammad Riaz (34). They are involved in several heinous crime, including murder and robberies.
On February 7, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Vedi Ram, posted at the Nizamuddin police station, lodged a complaint that on his way to Seelampur after completion of his duty, he was intercepted by two persons near the Golden Jubilee Park at 11.45 p.m. He alleged that the accused, who were on a motorcycle, asked him to hand over his belongings. When he resisted, they shot him in the stomach and fled with his wallet and mobile phone. A case was registered at Kotwali police station.
DCP (North) Nupur Prasad said that during investigation, CCTV footage of the area was scanned and a list of criminals who have come out on bail recently was prepared. “We tracked each and every criminal who is out on bail and simultaneously analysed CCTV footage of the all possible routes that could have been taken by the robbers.
“We finally succeeded in identifying the two suspected criminals — Arman Farhaz and Mohd Riaz. A trap was laid on Geeta Colony flyover and they were arrested. The motorcycle used in committing the offence, three robbed mobile phones and other articles were also recovered” said Ms. Prasad.
