Over seven lakh people, including school students, visited the 12-day Erode Book Festival, held at VOC Park Grounds here.
Organised by Makkal Sindhanai Peravai for the 15th year, over 150 publishers from across the country exhibited books that was visited by three lakh children and over four lakh public. On an average about 58,000 people, including children, visited the exhibition. Apart from the book exhibitions, eminent personalities from various fields spoke on various topics on all the days.
T. Stalin Gunasekaran, president of the Peravai, said that there were visitors from Malaysia, Norway, Spain, Australia and Singapore. He added that books were sold to over ₹ 7 crore during the exhibition.
At a function held on the concluding day, the best award, G.D. Naidu Award, for scientific innovation was presented to Bhaskar, Assistant Professor from Coimbatore. He was also given a cash award of ₹ 1 lakh for his innovation. Also, 15,000 saplings were distributed to the visitors during the festival.
