PCC chief says Rahul, Priyanka will take part
The ‘Prathyeka Hoda Bharosa Praja Yatra’ (Special Category Status assurance rally) of the Congress party will start on February 19 and end on March 3, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy announced here on Monday.
Addressing the media in the Andhra Ratna Bhavan, the PCC chief said 64 public meetings would be conducted during the yatra. AICC president Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Congress Chief Ministers of different States would participate in the Yatra, he said.
The new PCC Coordination Committee and election committees recently formed met under the chairmanship of AICC General Secretary Oommen Chandy in the morning, he said.
Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said that 1,090 applications were received from persons aspiring for party tickets to contest from 175 Assembly constituencies and 182 applications from persons aspiring to contest from 25 Parliament constituencies. Applications will be received from aspirants for an additional four days (February 12 to 15), he said. The special 21-member election committee would short-list three aspirants from each Assembly Constituency to be forwarded to AICC, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said.
