Naidu lensmen delight beating dappu at protest venue

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and others paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the Rajghat and to Dr B R Ambedkar before starting the day-long ‘Dharma Porata Deeksha’ fast at the Andhra Bhawan demanding the Special Category Status in New Delhi on Monday.

Party workers led by Guntur MP Galla Jayadev presented a garland made of red chillies, for which Guntur is famous, to Mr. Naidu.

Mr. Naidu was lensmen delight with beating a dappu (drum). Party State official spokesperson Sadineni Yamini Sarma made an appearance as Telugu thalli at the protest venue at the AP Bhavan. Holding placard with the slogan ‘The Centre is doing injustice to my children and my mother Bharata mata is witness to it,’ she went around the venue.

The TDP workers and admirers of Mr. Naidu took selfies with him.

Showering praises on the Chief Minister, BJP leader Shatrughna Sinha said Mr. Naidu had become hero in the country.

AICC president Rahul Gandhi paid tributes to TDP founder president and former Chief Minister N. T.Rama Rao’s portrait placed on the dais. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sarad Pawar concluded his speech with Jai Andhra.

Lighter moments

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was seen sharing lighter moments with Mr. Naidu.

Most of the speakers preferred Telugu to greet the gathering and address the leaders sitting on the dais. They asserted that Telugu had a special place in their hearts.

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad referring to Mr. Naidu said their relationship was decades old.
