Video doctored, says Tripura Minister Swantana Chakma

‘CPI(M) trying to malign my image’

Tripura Social Education and Social Welfare Minister Swantana Chakma threatened to sue the Opposition CPI(M) on Tuesday for “outraging her modesty” through a “doctored” video that ostensibly showed Youth Affairs Minister Manoj Kanti Deb touching her inappropriately on the dais during a rally attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Agartala on February 9.

“CPI(M) leaders have continuously outraged my modesty through a manipulated video clip. Minister Deb, too, has been blamed for something he has not done,” Ms. Chakma told newspersons at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s State headquarters. “I will take legal action against the CPI(M) for maligning my image in public.”

BJP Chief Whip in the State Assembly Kalyani Roy, accompanying Ms. Chakma, said the Minister had been traumatised answering queries from various quarters after the video went viral on social media.

The women’s wing of the CPI(M), the Democratic Women’s Association, had hit the streets, demanding the expulsion of Mr. Deb after the video began to be shared.
