‘He is playing divisive politics’
National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah, contesting from the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, on Monday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “anti-Kashmiri and anti-Muslim”, a day after Mr. Modi hit out at the regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
“PM Modi was dividing the nation in the name of religion. Had NC tried to divide the nation then India would not have existed today. Many among those who were killed in Jallianwala Bagh were Kashmiris but were never remembered by the BJP,” said Dr. Abdullah, at a rally in Srinagar.
Referring to the speech made by Mr. Modi in Jammu’s Kathua on Sunday, Dr. Abdullah said J&K had seen “unprecedented suppression since the Modi-led government came to power in New Delhi.”
Mr. Modi, according to Dr. Abdullah, was “playing the old tune.” “In the past too he promised to free the State of the two families. What followed is known to all; he joined hands with one of the political families he had been attacking all through his campaign. He helped two of its family members become Chief Minister,” he added.
