Coronation Street bosses have denied that Faye Brooks will be brutally killed off.
The Kate Conner actress sent shockwaves round Corrie with her shock resignation after four years on the ITV soap.
Faye, 31, told fans that she "needs a break for a while" as she thanked viewers for their support.
Reports emerged today that producers told Faye her character would be killed rather than being written out to show cast members they are disposable.
However, Corrie have told Mirror Online that Kate will not die and they will leave the door open for Faye to return in the future.
A Corrie spokesperson said: "We don't ever discuss future storylines but Kate Connor will not be killed off and the door will be open for her to return."
Kate became one of seven Corrie stars to announce their departure this year amid a mass exodus.
The actress broke the news to her devastated fans at the end of April.
She tweeted: "Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it's time for me to explore new opportunities, I've loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I'm off to pastures new. #corrie."
The actress has appeared in the soap since 2015 as Kate Connor, who is best known for her relationship with Rana Habeeb, played by Bhavna Limbachia.
Corrie bosses initially said that the door would be left open for Faye to return to the ITV soap.
In a statement, Coronation Street said: "Faye is a very talented actress who has put her all into the portrayal of Kate Connor for the past three and a half years, we wish her every success for the future.
"She will be on screen until early autumn and the door will be left open."
*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm
