Milo Ventimiglia, Kate Beckinsale and James Corden Stage Dramatic Soap Using Only Bruno Mars Lyrics

From “Uptown Funk” to “24k Magic,” “That’s What I Like,” “Versace on the Floor,” “The Lazy Song” and everything in between, Mars’ words tell this sordid tale of infidelity.

Milo Ventimiglia and Kate Beckinsale joined James Corden for a dramatic soap opera scene on "The Late Late Show," only all of the dialogue was replaced with lyrics from Bruno Mars’ music.

After coming home from a hard day at work, a euphoric Milo dropped to one knee and told Kate, "I think I wanna marry you."

Looking at the ring, she of course responded, "24k magic?"

But suddenly he heard something behind him. "You had your eyes wide open, why were they open?" he asked as James struggled to stay still under a blanket on the couch.

Yup, it’s the classic soap opera cheating storyline. And kudos to Milo for acting the full range of his anger and betrayal while saying only lines from Bruno Mars songs.

Props also to the writers for some very clever usage of those lyrics to move the narrative forward as necessary. "Take it off" became the line Milo used to tell Kate it was time to uncover James’ form.

Once revealed, James said, "Today, I swear I’m not doing anything."

What followed was a debate between the two men — escalating at one point into violence — and then a huge decision for Kate. But the real winner in this whole sordid affair is clearly Bruno Mars. His words really brought the drama to life, even some of its most nonsensical moments.

As an exercise in adaptation, this was one of James’ most enjoyable experiments yet. As a performance piece, it was a real challenge for everyone, with Milo and Kate absolutely knocking it out of the park.

James did this same experiment back in September with Drake’s lyrics, joined by Kaley Cuoco and Joel McHale, but this felt like a more polished and accomplished final product.

And all of a sudden, our minds are racing with artists we want to see adapted in this most ridiculous of formats. You know Taylor Swift’s music was made for this, right?
