Alison Hammond supports GBBO star in row over plus-sized spa guests

Both Alison Hammond of This Morning and GBBO 2020 finalist Laura Adlington have slammed spas for their apparent failure to be size-inclusive, pointing out that “bigger people want to enjoy [wellness experiences] too”.

To demonstrate the problem, Laura uploaded a topless mirror selfie while struggling with a poorly-fitting dressing gown that gaped open to reveal more of her cleavage than she’d intended.

The frustrated star, who was recently told by doctors she must lose 14 stone before being eligible for IVF, captioned her photo with an appeal.

“Dear fancy spas… Bigger people want to enjoy treatments too. Please make your robes inclusive. It really ruins the experience for us when they don’t fit,” she lamented.

New Great British Bake Off co-host Alison then took to the comments section to echo her concerns.

“So true, I take my own now however I did go to @champneysspas and they gave me a 3 XL . I felt so happy!” she exclaimed.

Laura added to her post: “When the label says ‘One size fits all’ #plussize #plussizeproblems #selflove #bodyconfidence.”

Meanwhile, an equally aggravated follower replied to say she’d had exactly the same experience with hospital gowns.

“I was so embarrassed recently when my gown didn’t meet at the back x,” she explained.

Laura replied sympathetically: “Oh no! I didn’t know they came up small as well. So sorry you had to experience that xxx.”

Other Twitter users bombarded Alison with queries about her experience at Champneys, with one explaining she’d turned down “so many spa invites” over hang-ups about her figure.

@ladyberrycupcakes reassured her: “Champneys is getting better with XLs and about damn time!”

Meanwhile, Laura previously revealed that she has opted out of her previous plans to have children after trying unsuccessfully for three years.

Doctors had told her she would need to lose a substantial amount of weight before she could qualify for IVF – news which she said left her totally distraught.

“Unless you’ve gone through infertility and that heartache of really wanting it and it not happening . . . it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through,” she told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine.
