Brooklyn Beckham admits quitting football amid fears he couldn’t live up to his dad

Brooklyn Beckham has admitted that he quit his budding career in football after fearing he couldn't live up to his dad, David Beckham, who is a hero in the footballing world.

David, 47, used to be the darling of Manchester United, and throughout his career, he's won 19 trophies in the sport.

Speaking in a recent interview with Variety, for which he appeared on the front cover, 23 year old Brooklyn revealed that despite playing for Arsenal's youth academy in his teens, he decided to give up the sport for good when the club released him at 16.

He touched on his father's opinion of Brooklyn quitting his beloved sport, saying: "My dad wasn't sad, because he was like, 'I just want you to be happy', but of course I was sad. It was my whole life since I was literally two.

"To try and live up to what my dad did in football, I was just like, 'that's going to be a bit difficult'".

Father-of-four David still has one son he can watch on the pitch though, as his 19 year old son Romeo has forayed into the sport, playing for Inter Miami FC, which David owns.

Following the end of his footballing dreams, Brooklyn turned his attentions towards photography, for which he has a huge passion, and he ended up studying it at New York's Parsons School Of Design

He then had another change of heart and is now pursuing a career in cooking, often posting videos to his Instagram page, and he has aspirations of opening an English-style pub in LA on day.

Speaking to Variety about the change in his career direction, Brooklyn said: "I really enjoyed it for a couple of years. I love taking pictures of my wife. I still have all my film cameras, but now it's just more of a fun thing to do. They were kind of all hobbies. I was still trying to find that one thing I would literally die for, and I found that with cooking".

Brooklyn also revealed that he and his new wife of four months, Nicola Peltz, 27, should do a reality TV show, which his yet-to-be-established pub could be the subject of.

He said: "I've always said to my wife, we should actually do a reality TV show, because she's so funny.

"And we take the p**s out of each other all the time. She sometimes doesn't get my English humour."

Nicola also took part in the Variety interview, and here she finally broke her silence on reports of a "feud" between her and her mother-in-law, Victoria Beckham, 48.

The actress said that she thinks the rumours began when it was revealed that Victoria didn't design her bridal gown, with the 27 year old opting to wear a dress by Valentino Haute Couture.

"I was going to and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realised that her atelier couldn't do it, so then I had to pick another dress," Nicola revealed.

Giving an insight into what went down between her and her new mother-in-law, she then added: "She didn't say you can't wear it; I didn't say I didn't want to wear it. That's where it started and then they ran with that."

Brooklyn was quick to defend his new wife and mum, and added: “I’ve learned they’re always going to try to write stuff like that. They’re always going to try and put people down. But everyone gets along, which is good.”
