Katie Price says she has started to plan terminally ill mum Amy’s funeral

Katie Price has opened up about her mum Amy's terminal illness, saying the pair have discussed the 69-year-old's funeral.

Amy was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in 2017 – a condition that causes scarring on the lungs and affects breathing. Amy has previously discussed her diagnosis on Loose Women, when she said her condition was terminal.

In an exclusive extract from her new book, Katie Price: Harvey and Me, Katie says that her mum has "accepted" her illness.

She explains: "I know that she’s accepted it, and even though I’m sure it’s on her mind every day, she doesn’t dwell on it.

Katie continues: "As I said, she’s always been the complete opposite to me when it comes to things like that. Her attitude towards this illness has been the same as it was when we were told about Harvey’s conditions.

"I suppose I’m a glass half empty kind of person and she’s a glass half full."

Katie adds that she has been forced to accept the situation, explaining: “I’ve accepted it now because I have to. She has an incurable disease and that’s just the reality of it."

Katie went on to explain that she has spoken to her mum about her funeral and asked what Amy would want.

She explains: "I know it sounds awful, but once we knew the prognosis, I even spoke to my mum about her funeral and what she wants for it. I think it’s much easier to organise a funeral if you know what they want.”

Katie continued to say that her mum's lung capacity has worsened, adding: "Now, she’s only got around 32 per cent of her lung capacity, whereas the average person has around 100 per cent. So you can imagine how out of breath she gets."

Speaking about Amy's day to day life – including her time with grandson Harvey, 19 – Katie explains that Amy easily tires.

She says: "She gets tired easily too, so it’s not like she can spend as much time with Harvey as she used to. She’s now on oxygen as well.

"I found that hard to deal with because in my head, once you start on the oxygen, you kind of know what’s coming next.

"Whenever she speaks, she coughs and gasps for air. But she’s always reluctant to increase her oxygen levels because she doesn’t like to rely on it.

“It’s heartbreaking to see her like that.”

Earlier this month, Amy celebrated her 69th birthday and Katie's children shared tributes to their grandmother on her special day.
