Meghan Markle has shed light on how she deals with the pressures of being a partner and parent on her Archetypes podcast, as she spoke with Canada’s First Lady Sophie Trudeau.
The Duchess of Sussex, 41, became close friends with Mrs Trudeau, 47, prior to her joining the Royal Family as she filmed US drama Suits in Canada, and the pair spoke about the challenges of parenting and their marriages on her new Spotify podcast.
Both women share in common very high-profile relationships, being married to two of the world’s most famous men, and showed a mutual respect for one another during their discussion, as they talked about the difficulties they deal with in their public lives.
As she introduced her special guest on the podcast, Meghan called Mrs Trudeau a “humanitarian mother”, and informed listeners they hit if off after meeting seven years ago during Toronto Fashion Week.
Meghan said: “Sophie has become a dear friend and someone who I think is so emblematic of strength that comes from embracing your humanity, even in the face of all these family and home and public pressures, keeping that sense of self while holding up the mantle of what comes with being a parent and a spouse, that's a full plate.”
The Duchess spoke about how she is able to relax behind the spotlight with Mrs Trudeau, as close friends, and candidly described a day spent together as they enjoyed “wine 'on the terrace” while watching over their children.
Meghan said: “This wasn't our day of being the wives and moms, all perfectly quaffed with updos and pearls and demure smiles.
“This was the other version of us both with wild curly hair and swimsuits and loose linen and huge belly laughs. Big cuddles with our little ones, quiet whispers of girl talk on the terrace, giddy like absolute schoolgirls.
"We were just having so much fun.”
The Duchess is seen in photos obtained by the Daily Mail with Canada’s First Lady on a rooftop bar in 2016, as they posed together at private members’ club Soho House. According to the biography Finding Freedom, this is the year the two women first met.
Meghan shared on her podcast that she has “gone to Sophie for advice” over the years since knowing her.
The Duchess also has a connection with the First lady’s husband, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The pair were pictured meeting that same year, prior to Meghan meeting Mrs Trudeau, at the One Young World summit in Ottawa.
