Big Little Lies Season 2 has (almost) ARRIVED, which means it’s time to take down the not-at-all embarrassing Game of Thrones fan art in my living room and replace it with some, IDK, like, beach stuff. Season 2 of HBO’s hit drama premieres on June 8, and I think we can all agree that—together with Nicole Kidman—Reese Witherspoon is the mastermind behind it.
In the span of her career, Reese has morphed from a teen movie star (Fear is the greatest film of our time, FACT) into an Academy Award-winning actress and a powerhouse Hollywood producer—and she’s been making a ton of cash along the way. Plus, let’s not forget her side-hustle as the front-woman of Draper James, her lifestyle and clothing brand.
Reese is basically a damn inspiration and her net worth will have you all 👏👏👏 before checking your own bank account and breaking down into tears of woe. Anyway! Speaking of breakdowns, here’s one of Reese’s $$.
^Me to my credit card.
First Up, Her Acting Career
‘Kay, so Reese has been in ~the business~ forever. As I already mentioned, Fear is clearly her most important movie / the most important movie—but she’s also been in classics like Legally Blonde (also good, but not as good as Fear), Election, and Cruel Intentions. Plus, she won an Oscar for Walk the Line. According to Forbes, Reese commands a huge salary for her acting, and the magazine put her on their 2018 list of highest paid actresses with an income of $16.5 million that year alone. Meanwhile, CBS News reports that she gets between $15-$20 million per movie.
Ahem, a Note on Big Little Lies
Forbes estimates that Reese was paid a staggering $1 million per episode for season two. There are seven episodes in the season, which *dusts off kindergarten math* means she made $7 million. Cool/normal.
Then There’s Her Production Company
It’s unclear what Reese is earning while working behind the camera with her production company Hello Sunshine, but she’s prolific. Last year, the company inked a deal with AT&T to launch VOD, plus they’ve created a speaking tour, a book club, and even a network of female-centric podcasts.
However, it’s possible Reese isn’t actually taking home that much from Hello Sunshine given that she spent her own money on it. As she puts it: “I self-funded for five years, and it created the autonomy I needed to be disruptive.”
Psst: If you want to know what big producing projects Reese has lined up, she’s working on dramas for Apple and Starz, is adapting the novel Little Fires Everywhere for Hulu, and doing the same for the novel Daisy Jones & The Six over at Amazon.
Plus, Don’t Forget About Draper James
Draper James is a clothing brand and lifestyle MOOD founded by Reese—with the help of millions from outside investors. Unclear what kinda profit she’s making from the brand, but they seem to be doing well? ON THAT NOTE, anyone in the mood to buy a cute dress?
So, What’s Reese’s Total Net Worth?
According to Celebrity Net Worth, that’d be $150 million. Which is huge! But keep in mind that number is post-tax—meaning Reese has actually made way more. In fact, in 2017 Forbes noted that she’d made $198 million in career earnings (pretax) since the brand started keeping tabs on her income in 2002. Cool, I’ll just be here with the Starbucks gift card my grandma gave me.
