Richard Madeley, 64, and Judy Finnigan, 72, are adoring parents to their two children Jack Madeley, 34, and Chloe Madeley, 33. However, their youngest child was entirely unplanned, being conceived only “months” after her sibling was born.

I look at Chloe as a sort of accident

Speaking on The Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast with Giovanna Fletcher, Richard revealed: “I look at Chloe as she was a sort of accident and she was conceived only a few months… when Jack was only a few months old.”

The pair got married in 1986 when Jack was six months old, as they did not want to wait much longer to walk down the aisle.

Judy shared: “We would of probably got married in 1984 if we could’ve done, but we got married in 1986.

“When our first child Jack was six months old, we had to wait until he was six months…  we would’ve married earlier,  and we had to wait for our divorces to come through and everything.

“So we went ahead as I was in my mid 30s. Well by the time we got together I was beginning to be in my late 30s and I knew I wanted more children,” she added.

Richard was previously married to Lynda Hooley between 1977 and 1983.

Meanwhile, Judy was with her first husband David Henshaw for 12 years, and they share twins Tom and Ben.

When the pair tied the knot at a Manchester registry office, they were unaware Judy was already pregnant with Chloe.

Richard shared: “We would later discover that Judy was in fact already pregnant with Chloe so actually all four of them were at the wedding which was great.”

The family are settled now but Judy’s eldest children have preferred to remain out of the limelight.

Richard spoke about his fears over becoming a stepfather in his 2009 book, Fathers And Sons.

“‘I come in a three-pack.’ Judy’s reply when I asked her to marry me could not have been clearer. She was letting me know what I was in for,” he wrote.

“The twins, Tom and Dan, were six, children of her first marriage to David. That marriage, like my own, had come to grief.

“But there was never a moment’s argument or doubt about with whom the boys would be living.”

He went on: “So if I wanted Judy, it would be a package deal – and I had to be absolutely certain I could handle that. Was I really up to the job of stepfather? We both had our doubts.

“Was I mature enough to be a stepfather?

“Was it something I actually wanted? Did I have the patience to handle the situation if the boys resented my arrival in their lives? Had I fully grasped what I was taking on?”

Meanwhile, Chloe and Jack have enjoyed successful careers after they first hit screens in Big Brother’s Big Mouth, where the siblings co-presented a few episodes of the spin-off reality show.

Chloe then took to the spotlight posing for mags like FHM and became a roving reporter for mum and dad’s now-defunct show Richard & Judy.

She has also appeared on reality shows such as Celebrity Quitters, Dancing On Ice and The Jump.

She is a personal trainer and runs the site, as well as making regular media appearances, and is married to James Haskell.
