South films are known for their larger-than-life stories and massive scale. In fact, with time they are garnering more and more audience and are giving a tough time to Bollywood movies. We are set to enter the last quarter of the year and we have anticipated films in Tollywood, Kollywood and Sandalwood industry to roar aloud at the box office. Well, you’ll be amazed to know that in the last three months of 2019, Rs 700 crore is riding on these ventures. So, let’s check them out…
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy – Rs 270 crore
The Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara starrer historical drama has been in the making for more than a year. Directed by Surender Reddy, the film will narrate the story of Kurnool-based freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. The Telugu film co-stars Amitabh Bachchan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sudeep, Vijay Sethupathi and Jagapathi Babu in important roles.
Bigil – Rs 140 crore
Thalapathy Vijay starrer Bigil is one of most awaited films of this year. Since the film marks the reunion of director Atlee and Vijay after Mersal, the expectations are sky-high from the film. Nayanthara has worked with Vijay in Sivakasi and Villu in the past and this will be her third collaboration with the actor.
Kaithi – Rs 50 crore
This Karthi starrer action-thriller is bankrolled by Vivekananda Pictures and Dream Warrior Pictures and also stars Narain, Dheena and George Mariyan in key roles. 70 per cent of the film will be shot in and around Chennai and Tirunelveli. It is directed by Lokesh.
Sanga Thamizhan – Rs 70 crore
Vijay Sethupathi’s typical Tamil masala entertainer also stars Raashi Khanna and Nivetha Pethuraj in key roles. The success of the film is crucial for Vijay Chandar after two flops, Vaalu and Sketch.
Asuran – Rs 60 crore
Asuran, which marks the fourth collaboration of Dhanush and Vetrimaaran after “Pollathavan”, “Aadukalama and “Vada Chennai”, is based on the Tamil novel “Vekkai” by Poomani. In the film, Dhanush plays dual roles and will be seen as father and son. Manju Warrier plays the leading lady and this project marks her Tamil debut.
Chanakya – Rs 40 crore
In this Thiru directorial action drama, Gopichand portrays the character of a RAW agent, who goes rogue. We hope, the actor will make a great comeback with this film after a string of flops.
Mamangam – Rs 45 crore
In this period-action drama, we will witness the events that happened in 15th and 16th century and how a 12-year-old boy takes up his first fight. “These are things which happened in 15th and 16th century in North Kerala between two kingdoms and here comes the special element which will be revealed in the film. There is also an unknown character which leads the way but the story revolves around a 12-year-old boy who is going for his first Mamangam fight with his uncle. How he overcomes all the challenges, is the gist and what happens in between is the real story of Mamangam,” Mammootty told us in an exclusive interview.
