Rylan Clark says he has ‘no regrets’ as he marks 10 years since X Factor audition

Rylan Clark has celebrated 10 years since he auditioned for the X Factor and the "decade to remember" that followed.

The 33 year old media personality says he has "no regrets" about appearing on the show, which eventually led to his incredible career on television.

When Rylan auditioned for the singing competition in 2012, he charmed people with his incredible personality, rather than his vocals.

He made it past the audition stage and placed fifth in the competition, after Nicole Scherzinger picked him to compete in the live shows.

To mark the anniversary of the pivotal moment in his life, Rylan posted a throwback picture of himself on The X Factor stage on social media and wrote:“Dunno how, dunno why, but today marks 10 years since that audition.

“Thanks for a decade to remember. No regrets x”.

Fearne Cotton replied: “Iconic. Bring back this hair babe” Alex Jones fondly wrote: “I knew I’d love you, even then” with a red heart emoji

In the audition, 23 year old model Rylan walked onto stage with shoulder length blonde hair and a white v neck t shirt with "ain’t this love" written across it.

Judge Rita Ora said to Rylan: “How do you get your hair that shiny, Rylan?”

“This ain’t my hair, I’m full of extensions,” the future TV presenter joked back.

He also complimented Gary Barlow’s blazer, leading to the judge tease: “Thank you, it’s a yes from me!”

Rylan went on to woo the judges with his personality, telling them about his love for Ibiza tunes, fancdom for Tulisa and his time in a Take That and Westlife tribute band.

He sang Kissing You from Romeo and Juliet, which he then remixed with a party house beat.

The response was mixed from the judges, but it was his bubbly personality that shone and left both the judges and audience in hysterics.

Despite disagreements about his vocals, the judges were won over by Rylan.

Rita Ora said: “You know what, you’re really really fun, and I want to see what else you have got. I’m a Rylan fan!”

Gary Barlow added: “Rylan, love your personality, hate your voice.

“Was a really strange song choice as well.”

“I love the fact that you brought a bit of Ibiza to us today,” Tulisa said, before going on to agree that Rylan’s performance was a bit "cabaret".

Louis Walsh announced that he was "confused" by the audition.

He said: “I think you are interesting., I think you’re fun. But I’m just a bit worried.”

“Listen,” Rylan quipped back, “I’ll knock that worry out of you, we’ll be fine, I promise.”

Rylan managed to get three yes votes from the judges, on the condition from Rita Ora that he got vocal lessons.

He finished the competition in fifth place, successfully making it through bootcamp and the judges’ houses.

Since this audition, Rylan’s music career stalled but he shot to stardom as a presenter.

He won Celebrity Big Brother in 2013, and then went on to host the spin-off show Big Brother’s Bit on the Side.

Rylan also sat down with the hosts of This Morning to discuss the gossip of the X Factor, which eventually led to him hosting The Xtra Factor Live in 2016.

He has presented a number of episodes of The One Show since 2019 as well as Strictly Come Dancing spin off It Takes Two amongst a number of TV projects.

This year, Rylan hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022 alongside Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills.
