Simon Cowell admits that he started drinking and smoking at just EIGHT years old and was arrested after he tried to hijack a bus with a pea-gun

Simon Cowell has admitted he had his first drink and smoked his first cigarette at just eight years old as he revealed he was a ‘nightmare’ child.

The music mogul, 62, told how he got bored of school and would rebel against his parents which even lead to him getting arrested. 

Simon revealed that the arrest took place after he pointed a pea-shooting gun at a terrified bus driver in an attempt to hijack the bus.

Speaking to The Sun Simon told them about how bad he was when he was his current son Eric’s age, who is now eight.

‘I was so bad when I was Eric’s age. I was a nightmare.’ 

‘I was drinking and smoking at eight, and I once nearly burned the house down’ 

He also claimed: ‘I was trying to prove to my brother that Father Christmas wasn’t real, so I found the costume and set fire to the beard.’ 


Rebel: During his early years Simon claimed that he was once a wild child and often rebelled easily

He went on to continue the story with how he set his house on fire, claiming that he dropped the beard on the sofa, and then the whole room went up in flames. 

He also admitted that during his time as a child he once stole his dad’s car at the age of ten and managed to crash it. 

However, even though Simon crashed his dad’s car he claimed that his father was always more of the ‘softer’ parent. 

He went on talk about how his mother was more of the disciplinary kind, whereas his father was the softer one out of the two.

He also admitted that he can’t remember his father ever raising his voice at him, even though he rebelled a lot as a child. 

Simon recently admitted that since becoming a dad, the shoe is now on the other foot, and confessed that he has an overprotective nature towards his son Eric claiming that it is ‘borderline ridiculous.’ 

He also added that his son is never allowed to leave and that he will ‘live with him forever’.

He claims that his protectiveness over his son is only happening because of his own worries, as he recalls what he was like when he was his son’s age. 

And it’s not just Simon’s troublesome past that has come as a shock, he also admitted that he was unbelievably shy as a child. 

He said ‘the funny thing is that, for all the trouble I caused, I was actually unbelievably shy as a kid. I was OK as long as I was in my own house or with my friends.’ 

Caring father: He claims that his protectiveness over his son is only happening because of his own worries, as he recalls what he was like when he was his son’s age

‘When I went into the music industry, I got asked to the Brit Awards and my stomach would be in knots beforehand, and then it was like torture. Especially when you didn’t win!’ 

‘But, weirdly, doing my job helps me on a social level. The ice was broken, as people knew me’ 

And although he was once a wild shy child, at the end of the interview Simon admitted for the last time that he has finally adjusted and is ‘happier than ever’ with his life now.
