Tinie Tempah admits he loves working with ‘sweetheart of England’ Cheryl

Tinie Tempah has opened up about his long-standing friendship with Cheryl, revealing how they bonded over their "humble beginnings".

The London-born rapper, 34, worked with the Girls Aloud star, 39, who hails from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, on her 2014 music comeback with all-time banger Crazy, Stupid, Love, which featured him on it.

Explaining why they connected so well as friends and colleagues, he told OK!: "Cheryl was the sweetheart of England at the time, she could do no wrong. Everyone loves Chezza!.

"We could relate to each other being artists who’d come from humble beginnings. There’s a reason we connected so well."

Tinie continued: "So she was willing to do the record, and I quite liked the record, so we did it and it went to No1."

The star previously admitted working with the mum of one was a "big deal" for him.

He told Capital FM: "She's amazing, she's incredible. She's one of our national treasures, isn't she? I don't know any guy in this country or this world in fact that would turn down making a song with Cheryl, so I did.

"It was definitely a big deal for me and I'm just glad people are reacting so well to it."

He shared further: "We haven't met that many times but it's strange when you meet somebody and you're just comfortable around them straight away.

"I definitely had that with her. She's a lovely person, so down to earth as well."

Tinie, who is a dad of two, has worked with the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Tinchy Stryder and Snoop Dogg.

He said: "I went out on the Pyramid Stage with Snoop Dogg in 2010 and I remember this whole new world opening up to me. I’m a council estate kid from south east London, so growing up I wasn’t really exposed to festival life."

Meanwhile, Cheryl has swapped her pop career for acting in spooky West End thriller Ghost story 2:22 in a role previously played by Laura Whitmore, Giovanna Fletcher and Lily Allen.

Revealing the news to fans on instagram yesterday with an image of the show’s poster, she wrote: “Hey!!! .. I am SO excited to be starring in the west end thriller @222aghoststory!!

"I will be playing the role of Jenny from January – April!

"I went to see the show with a previous cast and LOVED IT!

"It is a totally new and exciting experience for me so if you’re looking for a fun night out & some entertainment in your new year tickets are available now….whenever you’re ready."

Cheryl will star opposite Hugo Chegwin ( People Just Do Nothing ), Scott Karim ( The Invisible Hand ) and Louise Ford.
