104 cases settled at National Lok Adalat in HC Bench

A total of 930 cases came up for arbitration at the National Lok Adalat held at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court by the High Court Legal Services Committee on Saturday.

Out of the 930 cases listed before six benches, 104 were resolved with a settlement to the tune of Rs. 11.26 crore. Justices S. S. Sundar, J. Nisha Banu, T. Krishnavalli and R. Tharani and retired Judges A. R. Ramalingam and P .Murugeshan heard the cases.

A total of 3,810 cases were settled out of the 24,929 cases listed at the Madurai District Court. A sum of Rs. 17.02 crore was awarded as settlement. Second Additional District Judge S. Ganeshan, III Additional District Judge S. Karthikeyan, retired District Judges C. Raghavan and Mohammed Nainar and other judges heard the cases. Transgender activist Bharathikanamma also was part of the panel.


At the NLA held at Dindigul, 2950 cases were disposed of and Rs. 7.98 crore awarded as settlement. Principal District Judge K. Murali Shankar heard the cases.


A total of 112 cases were settled at the NLA held at Theni District Court in which Rs. 2.03 crore was awarded as settlement. Cases were heard by the Principal District Judge S. Senthil Kumaresan and retired Judge M. M. Krishnan.


Six benches in Ramanathapuram district court and five in taluk headquarters took up 3,778 compoundable criminal cases, motor accident claim petitions, bank recovery and family dispute cases for settlement and disposed of 1,372 cases in the National Lok Adalat, organised by the District Legal Services Authority, on Saturday.

Principal District Judge A. Kayalvizhi, Chairman, DLSA, inaugurated the adalat and chaired a bench with Sub-Judge M. Preetha. Additional district judge T. V. Anilkumar, Chief Judicial Magistrate M. Sivaprakasam, District Munsiff K. S. Rajesh Kumar, Sub-Judge V. Ramalingam, who is the secretary of DSLA, chaired other benches in the district court.

The benches awarded total compensation of Rs. 11.02 crore to litigants including Rs. 9 crore to a party in a property dispute case. Benches in courts in taluk headquarters of Paramakudi, Thiruvadanai, Rameswaram, Kamuthi and Mudukulathur also settled cases.

Three couples were united after settling family dispute cases – two at the district court and one in Paramakudi.

In Sivaganga, the adalat was inaugurated by Principal District judge K. V. Senthurpandiyan, Chairman, DLSA. Six benches at the district court and six in taluk headquarters in Karaikudi, Devakottai, Manamadurai, Tirupattur and Ilayangudi took up 2,585 cases and settled 2,141.

The benches took up 3,097 pre-litigation bank cases and settled 119 of them. In all, the benches awarded settlements to the tune of Rs. 3.18 crore.

The other benches in the district court were chaired by Additional district judge V. V. Thaniarasu, Family court judge Subramanian, Sub Judge T P Vadivelu, secretary, DLSA, Sub-Judge R. Selvakumar, District Munsiff Achuthan and Judicial Magistrate R. Lalitha Rani.


A total of 959 pending cases were disposed of at the third National Lok Adalat held in various courts on Saturday. Settlements to the tune of Rs. 1.84 crore were made.

Principal District Judge D. Ilangovan inaugurated the adalat. Judge Samuel Benjamin, Judicial Magistrates S. Annamalai, A. Bismitha and S. Tamilselvi were present.

Over 3,000 cases were resolved in Tirunelveli, with settlements amounting to Rs. 15.57 crore. Principal District Judge K. Rajasekar inaugurated the NLA. Chief Judicial Magistrate N. Rajamanickam was present. Across the district, 5,854 cases were heard in 17 sittings and 3,255 of them resolved.
