The Health Department has intensified anti-dengue operations across the district by pressing into service 40 special teams in all the 20 unions in the district.
Two teams will be in-charge of each union. The special teams formed under a health inspector will visit all the semi-urban towns and villages in the municipalities, town panchayats and village pancahayats and will monitor the situation besides launching anti-dengue operations, K. Poongodi, Deputy Director of Health, told
The Hindu
here on Thursday.
She said that the district administration and the health department have already jointly launched various initiatives to check dengue in both urban and rural centres.
Dr. Poongodi said that the members of the special teams and the staff of the health department have taken special initiative to create awareness among the common people on the causes of dengue and how to prevent the same.
The people suffering from fever, body pain, headache and urinary infection should get treatment at the nearby government hospitals. Any lethargic attitude will prove serious. Special care should be taken as far as infants, children, pregnant women and elderly people were concerned. They should be given instant proper treatment at the government hospitals. She urged the people to keep all the utensils filled with water closed all the time.
All the wastes, worn-out tyres and coconut shells should be removed from the household surroundings. The people should protect themselves from all sorts of mosquitos. Dr. Poongodi warned the people from approaching the quacks for treatment and also preferring self-medication.
