The Agriculture Department is gearing up to establish a Statewide network of task force units and agro-service centres to provide technical support for farmers and introduce them to scientific methods of farming.
Inaugurating an agro-service centre at Kilimanoor near here on Wednesday, Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar said task force units would be set up in all panchayats over the next two years.
He said moves were on to establish agro-service centres in all blocks.
Mr. Sunil Kumar said the government would provide assistance for the task force units to procure agricultural equipment and machinery. Trained farm workers would also be pressed into service.
The Minister said an agricultural mechanisation mission would coordinate the services of the task force and agro-service centres. He announced that all Krishi Bhavans would be elevated as plant health clinics within two years.
As many as 900 organic farming clusters and panchayat-level eco shops would be set up this year.
B. Sathyan, MLA, presided over the function.
