ASP’s wife lodges complaint to DGP against husband

Latha Manju, wife of Visakhapatnam Rural Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) N.J. Raj, on Wednesday complained to DGP R.P. Thakur that her husband had cheated her by marrying another woman and was harassing her.

Retirement benefits

In a representation submitted to the DGP, Ms. Manju alleged that Mr. Raj had married her in 1987 and without taking divorce married Ganga Bhavani. Recently, he included his second wife’s name in the service records by removing her name and was trying to nominate her for the retirement benefits, she alleged.

“Whenever we complained to the police about his harassment and behaviour, my husband used his influence to prevent registration of any case. Finally, I came to the DGP for justice,” Ms. Manju told the media

The ASP would attain superannuation this month end and she urged Mr. Thakur to do justice for her family.

Action sought

When contacted, Mr. Thakur said the ASP’s wife had complained that her husband was harassing her after marrying another woman and sought action.

“An inquiry has been ordered into the complaint. The Visakhapatnam Rural Superintendent of Police has been directed to conduct an inquiry. Based on the report, action would be taken against Mr. Raj,” the DGP told
