For Pichi Reddy, father of Inspector V. Ashok Reddy, the corporate look of his son’s workplace came as a pleasant surprise.
A first-time visitor to a police station in Hyderabad, Mr. Pichi Reddy, a native of Yapalagudem in Nalgonda district, was still under the impression that he would see a dank and decrepit police building. “I never expected that a police station will sport a corporate look. The technology here has surprised me,” he said.
He was among the 400-odd family members of staff working at Begumpet police station who visited their kin’s workplace for the first time to see its functioning on Sunday.
The get-together was organised by Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar to give them an insight into the functioning of police machinery and the working environment.
“My son joined the department 20 years ago, but never invited me to his workplace,” Mr. Pichi Reddy added. Most of them were excited to visit the police station as it was their first time, while children especially were thrilled to see the Command Control Room and the ambience of the workstation. On the occasion, an officer explained to them the features of firearms used by the police force.
Interacting with the family members, Mr. Kumar said police personnel work round the clock sacrificing their personal life to guard the society. “Our existence is on top of the chart and we play a major role in the development of the society,” he said.
North Zone DCP B. Sumathi said police need their family support to effectively discharge their duties. “We need friendly families to have friendly policing,” she said.
Further, Mr. Kumar hosted a lunch for all the staff and their family members.
A similar get-together were organised at Afzalgunj and Falaknuma police stations last month. North Zone Additional DCP S. Srinivas and Begumpet ACP S. Ranga Rao were present.
