Residents of Komaragiri village of I. Polavaram mandal on Wednesday spotted the body of 15-year-old Polisetti Veera Maneesha at the ‘Pushkarala Revu’ and informed the NDRF teams who were searching for the girls who went missing in the Vruddha Gauthami following a boat tragedy that took place on Saturday.
This takes the number of bodies traced in the last four days to four.
Family members from Saladivaripalem rushed to the government hospital at Yanam and established the identity of the victim.
A post-mortem was conducted before handing over the body to the family members.
Search operations were in progress to trace the three other girls who went missing and they will continue on Thursday also.
Home Minister N. Chinarajappa, who is monitoring the search and rescue operations along with district officials, announced three-day holidays to the students of island villages, as the Godavari and its tributaries were in spate.
He said punt boats and life jackets would be arranged on a war-footing and a system would be put in place to monitor the movements of boats travelling to the island villages.
