BSNL to launch APP-based voice service

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will launch ‘Wings’, APP-based internet telephony service through mobile/laptop, in Coimbatore this month, said G. Muraleedharan, Principal General Manager, Coimbatore SSA, recently.

Unlimited calls

Mr. Muraleedharan said that customers could avail of the service by registering on BSNL’s website
at an affordable price of Rs. 1,099 and enjoy unlimited calls to any phone in the country for a year through designated softphone (session initiation protocol) applications of Grandstream Wave on smartphone and computer.

The service doesn’t need any SIM card or network connection and can get users connected to different telephone networks, which is not possible in voice call options available on instant messaging applications. But, there is a catch. The device with softphone application needs external internet connection from a mobile network, hotspot or WiFi to receive or make calls.

Mr. Muraleedharan said that the customers would be given a 10-digit number similar to phone number.

“After registering on the website, the users will get the unique number. Later, the application should be installed on the desired device. Users can make voice calls to any network in the world, and the calls made from these devices will be presumed as local calls.”
