BSP to hold workers’ conferences to gear up for Lok Sabha polls

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will hold a series of workers’ conference across the state to gear up the party cadre for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Vir Singh and Jai Prakash Singh, two associates of BSP president Mayawati who were appointed national coordinators in May, will give the mantra for victory to party workers.

The first workers’ conference of Lucknow- Kanpur division will be held in Lucknow on July 16. Later, similar meetings will be held in Azamgarh, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Faizabad, Meerut, Moradabad and Agra.

“Besides establishing interaction with party workers, the conferences will help in collecting feedback about the organisation of cadre camps, meetings of bhai-chara (brotherhood) committees and constitution of booth committees. The aim is to strengthen the party at the grass roots level,” BSP leader Vir Singh said.

The BSP leaders will also discuss the possible tie-up with the Samajwadi Party in the Lok Sabha election.

The party’s district unit presidents are expected to give feedback to national coordinators over the party leadership’s decision to go for pre-poll alliance with the SP.

Mayawati had created the post of national coordinators during the national executive meeting of the party in May.

Dalit leaders Vir Singh and Jai Prakash Singh were appointed national coordinators even as the BSP president removed her brother Anand Kumar from the post of national vice-president. She said the national coordinators would review the working of state units across the country.

A senior BSP leader familiar with the developments said Mayawati was preparing the ground for pan-India politics by stitching alliance with regional political parties in various states. “Senior party leaders have been directed to review the preparation and gear up the cadre for the Lok Sabha election,” he said.

Newly-appointed state unit president RS Kushwaha is on a whirlwind visit of various districts to review the constitution of the bhai-chara committees and organisation of cadre camps. The BSP leadership plans to complete the organisation’s work by August-end.

Mayawati is likely to launch the election campaign after monsoon once the pre-poll alliance talks with the SP, Congress and other regional parties are finalised.

She is camping in Delhi to finalise the strategy for the election with Congress, Samajwadi Party, Janata Dal (Secular), Rashtriya Janata Dal, Chhattisgarh Janata Congress, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Jharkhand Vikas Morcha and YSR Congress.
