A car in which the meat of a stolen head of cattle was allegedly being transported has been handed over to the police by the residents of Kallur-Mandli in the city on Sunday.
A head of cattle belonging to Chandrashekhar, a farmer from Kallur-Mandli, was stolen on Saturday. It was allegedly culled at a vacant place on Sunday. When the thieves tried to transport the beef in a car, the residents of Kallur-Mandli, acting on a tip-off, intercepted them near Tunga bridge. The thieves left the car behind and fled. The beef was in a polythene bag in the car. The vehicle was handed over to Tunga Nagar police. A manhunt for the culprits has begun.
The residents staged a protest at the Tunga Nagar police station against cattle thefts reported regularly in their locality. They demanded that the police intensify patrolling.
