Cheating case: Congress men picked up for questioning

Kanniyakumari District Crime Branch police have picked up two Congress functionaries for allegedly cheating a man of Rs. 23 lakh on the pretext of getting his daughter a seat in a private medical college.

The police said Ajan and Samuel of Thiruvithancode approached Babu of Aluvilai near Marthandam with the promise of securing a seat for his daughter in a private medical college.

Besides his contribution of Rs. 10 lakh, Mr. Babu, through his friends Saji Kumar and Jayakumar, reportedly gave Rs. 13 lakh to Ajan and Samuel, who is the district secretary of Youth Congress. The duo handed over Rs. 23 lakh to K.G. Ramesh Kumar of Padanthalumoodu, former Youth Congress secretary of Kanniyakumari (West) district, for the medical seat.

As the trio failed to keep the promise and did not return the money, Mr. Babu submitted a petition to Superintendent of Police Srinatha, who directed the District Crime Branch to look into the matter.

Registering a case against the trio, the District Crime Branch police have picked up Ramesh Kumar and Samuel for interrogation.
