‘Construction of 4,725 Ashraya houses in Shivamogga city soon’

K.S. Eshwarappa, Shivamogga MLA, has said that the construction of 4,725 houses for below poverty line families under Ashraya housing scheme at Gopishettykoppa and Govindapura localities in the city would commence soon.

The Nagara Ashraya Samiti of Shivamogga City Corporation had planned to construct 6,144 houses on a 45-acre government land in Govindapura and on 19 acres in Gopishettykoppa. Applications were invited for the houses from poor families in December 2017.

Built-up area

As many as, 8,941 persons had applied and 4,725 were found eligible. It was planned to construct houses on ground floor plus two floors. Each flat would have built-up area of 345 square feet.

Mr. Eshwarappa told presspersons here on Saturday that at a meeting of senior officials of Municipal Administration and Housing departments held in Bengaluru on July 12, it was decided to assign the responsibility of construction of the houses to Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation.

Each housing unit would be priced at Rs. 5 lakh of which the beneficiary would get Rs. 1.70 lakh as subsidy from the Central government and Rs. 1.50 lakh from the State government. In addition to this, Rs. 1 lakh would be sanctioned for each beneficiary as loan from the bank.

The construction process would commence as soon as the beneficiary pays the remaining Rs. 80,000.

Replying to a query, Mr. Eshwarappa said that the list of beneficiaries would be published on the premises of Nagara Ashraya Samiti in a week. Special counters would be set up on the premises of the Corporation for issuance of income certificate and documents for the beneficiaries.

On the construction of remaining 1,419 houses on government land in Gopishettykoppa and Govindapura, he said that applications would be invited from poor families shortly.
