The Delhi Development Authority will execute the plantation of one million of a targeted total of 2.8 million trees and shrub saplings sought to be planted by greening agencies in the city, Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal was told at a review meeting on Friday.
The date by which the target must be met is September 30 this year.

The meeting was attended by Environment Minister Imran Hussain, Principal Commissioner, DDA, representatives from civic bodies , the Forest and Wildlife Department, and other officers of departments concerned, Raj Niwas said in a statement.
The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest made a presentation about Delhi’s forest cover within and outside greenwash, district-wise forest cover, annual plantation by the Forest Department, targets allotted to various greening agencies and tree species suitable for plantation by them, the statement said.

Also, he suggested a possibility of creating a vibrant city forest with diverse flora and fauna.
“The L-G directed that the offices of government departments carry out plantation in their surroundings along with their officers and the Forest Department must involve communities for the massive plantation drive,” the statement said .
Mr. Baijal was also apprised about the action plan for awareness campaigns which would include the Delhi Parks and Garden Society organising workshops with the active participation of RWAs. He also directed that a massive ‘Information, Education and Communication’ campaign be initiated within the next 15 days focussing on post plantation care such as watering, weeding and maintenance and protection.
