A doctor at Rao Tularam Memorial Hospital and a police officer were allegedly assaulted by the family members of a patient on Wednesday night, the police said on Thursday. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case, they said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said that the patient’s hsuband Anil and his brother Sunil have been arrested.
The complainant, Mani Shankar Madhav, who was the on-duty chief medical officer, said that he had referred the patient Jyoti to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital after an examination. She was suffering from labour pain.
“After Ms. Jyoti was referred to another hospital, Mr. Anil and Mr. Sunil and mother Bimla wanted another doctor to accompany the patient. They started arguing with the doctor,” Mr. Alphonse said.
Dr. Madhav alleged that he was abused and threatened by the family and a female doctor was also ill-treated by the accused.
Constable Harender, who had come to the hospital in connection with a case, tried to intervene. The accused, however, allegedly assaulted Mr. Harender and Dr. Madhav. Both sustained injuries, the police said.
Based on Mr. Madhav’s complaint, a case under Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Jaffarpur Kalan police station. Further investigation is under way.
