District Collector P.S. Pradyumna on Sunday informed mango growers that there was no need for any apprehensions about payment for the mango stocks supplied to pulp factories, post the announcement of remunerative price by the State government, exclusively for domestic farmers.
He said at Rs. 7.50 a kg, including the components of government and pulp industries, 62,000 metric tonnes of totapuri variety of fruit was procured by about 27 pulp units since July 4. The Collector said that the deadline for procurement would be extended till month-end, if required as 75,000 more metric tonnes has to be taken from the farmers.
20 tonne limit
The official stated that in order to benefit all the farmers, each of them would be allowed to supply 20 metric tonnes only.
Mr. Pradyumna said that the pulp industries were told to increase their production capacity, for which the district administration would hold talks with the Central Customs officials to provide more plastic containers to the pulp units.
