Fake note case: actor, kin in police custody

A serial actor, her mother, and sister have been taken into custody in connection with the seizure of counterfeiter notes from Anakkara in the district.

The arrest follows a raid on their house in Kollam on Tuesday. Counterfeit notes to the tune of Rs. 57 lakh have been seized from them. Besides fake notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 200 denominations, a computer and a printer have been seized from their house near the Women ITI at Manayilkulangara.

The arrested were identified as actor Surya Sasikumar, her mother Ramadevi, and sister Sruthi. With this, the total number of persons arrested in this connection has gone up to six and six others are absconding, Idukki Superintendent of Police K.B. Venugopal told

The police team investigating the case had earlier arrested Krishnakumar of Karunagapally, Raveendran of Puttadi, and Lio of Murikkasseri from Idukki.

A team of police led by the Kumily Circle Inspector went to Kollam on Tuesday and found the house of the actor locked.

The team opened the house after tracing them and the fake notes and printer were seized.

Mr Venugopal said some of the notes in 500 denominations were in the printing stage and the accused told them that the paper used for printing the notes was brought from Hyderabad.

The police started the search at 3 a.m. on Tuesday and continued it till 10 a.m. The printing units functioned on the first floor of the house. It was suspected that printing had been on there for the last six months.
