A week after a farmer’s suicide was reported from Mattavara in Belur taluk, the police investigating the case have suspected it to be a case of homicide. The police have taken his wife into custody suspecting her role in his death.
Yogesh (45) was found dead at his house in Mattavara on July 9. His wife Gayathri filed a complaint with Arehalli police stating that he committed suicide unable to bear the burden of the loan he borrowed to dig a borewell in his farmland.
The doctor who conducted the post-mortem opined that the death was caused due to asphyxia as a result of ligature strangulation. The polilce filed an FIR against Gayathri on charges of murder, misleading the police and destroying evidence. The police have taken Gayathri, the accused, into custody for further investigation.
It is said that Yogesh used to harass his wife over petty issues.
