The Coimbatore district administration on Monday issued flood alert to those living along the banks of River Bhavani.
A release from the administration said that following South West Monsoon rains in the catchments of Pilloor Reservoir, the inflow stands at 16,000 cusecs. As a consequence, the water level in the Reservoir has touched 97 feet, just three short of the full reservoir level.
As it could overflow any time, the officials managing the Reservoir have released 22,000 cusecs into River Bhavani, according to a release from Collector T.N. Hariharan.
Tirupur Collector K.S. Palanisamy has also issued flood alert to those living along River Amaravathy banks.
In a release issued in Tirupur on Monday, he said following heavy rains in the River’s catchments in Udumalpet Taluk, the inflow in the Amaravathi reservoir has increased. As a consequence, the water level in the Reservoir has touched 85 feet and Public Works Department is discharging surplus water into the River. Therefore, people living along the River’s banks would do well to remain cautious.
