A team of forensic experts on Friday examined the spot where two SUVs of Congress MLA Aditi Singh’s convoy turned turtle in Harchandpur, Rae Bareli, allegedly after being attacked by 15 masked men. The MLA was heading from Lucknow to Rae Bareli on Tuesday morning when the alleged attack took place.
The team visited the spot to establish the sequence of events, as the Rae Bareli police had sought their report to probe the alleged attack on the convoy. It comprised Prayagraj forensic in-charge Brijesh Bharti, Lucknow-based expert AK Jha and Rae Bareli forensic in-charge Pratibha Tewari.
A senior police official associated with the probe said that the forensic examination was sought after MLC Dinesh Pratap Singh refuted MLA Aditi Singh’s allegations that the SUVs turned turtle after being attacked by his and his brother Awadesh Pratap’s aides.
The cop said that according to the MLC’s claim, the two SUVs collided with each other and there was no attack.
“The forensic team examined the spot and conduced a technical examination of the two SUVs. The team has been requested to submit its report as early as possible so that further investigation can be initiated,” said the official.
He said the forensic experts’ opinion would help in ensuring a fair investigation. “The experts were asked to give their opinion on if the SUVs were hit by other vehicles before they turned turtle,” he said.
Earlier, on Wednesday and Thursday, police arrested ten people in connection with two cases registered after the alleged attack on the MLA’s convoy.
The attack was reportedly carried out in a bid to kidnap zila panchayat members who were accompanying the MLA to participate in a no-confidence motion against Rae Bareli zila panchayat chairman Awadhesh Pratap Singh. The no-confidence motion could not take place.
