Four men, including two siblings, have been arrested for the sexual assault of a Russian tourist in Tiruvannamalai.
R. Ponni, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvannamalai, said that Bharathi 31, owner of the service apartment in which the 21-year-old woman tourist was residing, raped her.
The three others – Bharathi’s brother, Neelakandan, 35, Manikandan, 37, and Venkatesan, 37, allegedly molested the woman.
The police have booked Bharathi under Section 376 (punishment for rape), while the three men have been booked under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of Indian Penal Code, she said.
The woman was residing in the service apartment since July 12.
Bharathi took the woman, who was unconscious, to a private hospital on July 16.
On finding injuries on her body, the hospital authorities informed the police.
The victim was then shifted to the Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Following this, the Tiruvannamalai Town police registered a case under Section 376 (read with 511 of IPC) and took up investigation.
The police picked up about 15 people for inquiry. The four men were brought to the station for inquiry.
Confined to room
Judicial Magistrate of Arni, Mahalakshmi recorded the woman’s statement on Thursday, she said.
The victim said that Bharathi had raped her while the three men had molested her.
Ms. Ponni said the woman was not drugged and she was confined to the room in the service apartment.
