Four persons from Andhra Pradesh were killed and seven others were severely injured when the mini-truck by which they were travelling overturned near Komarabanda village in the mandal around 3.30 p.m. on Sunday. Hailing from Makkapeta and Bhimavaram villages of Krishna district, they were returning home after visiting Dandu Maisamma temple near Atmakur S. in Suryapet district.
The truck, reportedly occupied by 20 persons at the time of accident, was said to be moving at a high speed on the highway near Kodad when one of its tyres burst. As a result, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned, killing three persons on the spot, the police said.
A. Guruswamy, 27, P. Veerayya, 45, and Shaik Hussain, 45, died on the spot, while an unidentified person died on way to the hospital.
Villagers of Komarabanda rushed to the site and helped rescue the victims. The injured persons were shifted to the Kodad Area hospital for emergency care.
The Kodad police launched an investigation.
