Girl seeks medical seat under sports quota

A 19-year-old medical aspirant and table tennis player has moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday claiming that there was no transparency in the selection of candidates for MBBS under the sports quota.

The petitioner Cheral Yazhini of Dindigul, claimed that

she had won seven golds at district level and two silver and bronze each at the divisional level. She was expecting her name to be in the selection list under sports quota but she was not called for counselling. Only 44 people were selected and some of them had scored less than her. The selection list was taken down the next day. When she approached the respondents concerned, they rejected her claim, she said.

“No transparency”

She alleged that there was no transparency in the selection of candidates under the sports quota. She sought a verification of her certificates and a direction to admit her for counselling.

Justice M. S. Ramesh sought a response from the Directorate of Medical Education and posted the case for further hearing by two weeks.
