Govt. made owning house possible, says Collector

The State government was helping people realize the dream of owning a house by taking up housing projects, said district Collector Kona Sasidhar here on Thursday.

The Collector was addressing a meeting after attending a house warming ceremony at Gorantla, where independent houses constructed under the NTR Housing Schemes were handed over to beneficiaries.

Stating that the government has built 91,592 houses in rural areas and 48,000 in urban areas under the Housing Corporation, he said, “ we are handing over 24,000 houses to beneficiaries across the district.’’

Former Minister Ravela Kishore Babu said it was a proud moment for the 3 lakh families getting a house on Thursday.

The State government had set a target of constructing 19 lakh houses by 2019. To help people own a house, lending had been made easier, he said.

Municipal Commissioner Srikesh B. Latkar said that every house would get a tap connection at Rs. 200.

At Vengalayapalem, construction of 10,000 houses in the G+3 format was under way. Another 4,000 houses were being built at Adavi Takkellapadu and those who did not own one could apply, said Mr. Sasidhar .

Agricultural Market Committee chairman Mannava Subba Rao was present.
