Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan has said that 11.70 lakh tablets (computers) will be provided to students from Class 6 to 8 soon.
Speaking after inaugurating smart classrooms at 14 government high and higher secondary schools in Gobichettipalayam here on Friday, he said that work on to implement ICT-enabled classrooms in government schools from Class 9 to 12 will be completed soon and steps are being taken to implement smart classrooms in 5,200 schools in the State.
Skill training
The Minister said that skill training will be integrated into the Plus Two syllabus for which work is on.
In the first phase, 11.70 lakh students in Classes 6, 7 and 8 will be provided the tabs, he added.
A total of 100 teachers from Britain will arrive in the State this month to provide English coaching to the students. “Classes will begin this month that will also help in improving the admissions in government schools,” he added.
Mr. Sengottaiyan said that 3.72 lakh teachers and non-teaching staff were involved in providing quality education to the students and hence, to encourage them 140 teachers were given awards recently.
Also, 56 government schools were given awards for performance, he added. The Minister said that steps were taken for conducting yoga classes a week and 45 minutes of compulsory sports activity everyday in the schools.
