People from five villages, whose land were being acquired for the Salem – Chennai green corridor project, appeared at the Salem South Taluk Office for enquiry on Friday.
People from Poolavari, Nalikalpatti, Parapatti and other villagers appeared before R. Sukumar, Competent Authority and Special District Revenue Officer (land acquisition), and expressed their opposition to the project in writing.
The officer had been conducting enquiry with villagers in a phased manner regarding objections raised with the special tahsildar against land acquisition. Officials said that enquiry will continue.
Earlier, villagers raised slogans against the project and said that they will not give their land at any cost. They raised slogans outside the office and police personnel pacified them. Later, after frisking by police personnel they were allowed to enter the taluk office.
