Hartal call evokes no response in Kozhikode

The hartal called by ultra-right Hindu outfits on Monday in protest against the alleged bid to tamper with the customs at the Sabarimala Temple turned out to be a damp squib in the district.

Bus services were not affected as the private bus owners, as well as the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, operated services on the day.

Educational institutions and government offices too functioned normally.

Traders did not cooperate with the hartal call as the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti functionaries had announced they would open shops.

No untoward incidents were reported from anywhere in the district.

The hartal call was given by the Ayyappa Dharmasena, Sriram Sena, Hanuman Sena, and the Vishala Viswakarma Aikya Vedi in the district.

However, mainstream Hindu organisations such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad had disowned it.
