Hubballi police seize elephant tusk, arrest 3

The Hubballi police arrested three persons and seized an elephant tusk worth over Rs. 10 lakh on the outskirts of Hubballi on Friday.

Police Commissioner M.N. Nagaraj gave the names of the arrested as Bastyav Alez Siddi, 38, of Kegedal village and Manjunath Laxman Jomannavar, 43, of Bikkelli village in Haliyal taluk of Uttar Kannada district, and Jailani Goususab Garag, 35, of Alasi village in Khanapur taluk of Belagavi district. He said a team, led by Bendigeri Police Inspector D. Santhoshkumar and comprising constables G.C. Rajput, M.D. Kalwad, N.A. Kenchannavar and Kanakappa Ragani, had also seized the car allegedly used for transporting the tusk.

Case registered

He said that the accused were transporting the tusk, procured illegally, for sale, when they were intercepted on the outskirts of Hubballi at Gabbur. The Bendigeri police have registered a case.
