Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri has instructed the officers of the Department of Public Library to take up activities to attract youth and students.
The youths should be made to develop the habit of reading books through innovative activities, she said in a meeting of District Public Library Authority, here on Thursday.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the officers to enhance the honorarium paid to library supervisors in rural areas to Rs. 10,000 from Rs. 3,000 by utilising the funds from gram panchayats, and keep the libraries open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Libraries
There are 273 libraries in the district. Of them, 260 are in villages. The library in Belur has got a new building at a cost of Rs. 45 lakh and it will be inaugurated soon, said C.G.Venkatesh, Deputy Director of the Library Department. The Deputy Commissioner said that a mobile library will be introduced in the district on a pilot basis this year.
