‘Industries need to get NOC to function’

Zilla panchayat president Soubhagya Basavarajan has informed that gram panchayats in the district have the right to stop the functioning of industries, solar units, wind turbines and other units if they have failed to obtain a no objection certificate (NOC).

Speaking at the zilla panchayat general body meeting held here on Friday, Ms. Basavarajan informed that the State government issued a circular in February 2018, mentioning the methods to be followed to collect taxes from industries, wind turbines and other units in the district and the renewal of their no objection certificates.

“If proper taxes are collected from these units, the income of gram panchayats would increase and development works can be taken up with those funds,” she added. In order to set up any industry, its mandatory to get NOC from the local authorities. If such certificates are not obtained the local authorities have right to close down such units, she added. The officers concerned informed the meeting that a total of Rs. 1.25 crore taxes are pending from a cement factory in Hosadurga taluk and since a case in this regard is pending with the court the authorities are unable to collect the taxes.

There are also allegations that some garment factories in Hiriyur taluk have failed to ensure proper jobs for local youth. The ZP president instructed the officers concerned to release necessary compensation to houses that were damaged owing to natural calamities in the district.
